Outsite
Santa Cruz - United States
Emmanuel Guisset
WHY DID YOU START OUTSITE?
When I relocated to the Bay area from Belgium, I started working remotely from Santa Cruz so I could combine work and my passion for the ocean. I had a amazing lifestyle for a couple of years, surfing before/after work, going moutain biking etc.. Howewer, I didnt' really have a social life because I was working from home and I couldnt really meet international and entreprenerial people like. That's why I decided to move to SF and started to work on a mobile app as side project. The startup failed but I discovered the coworking and coliving spaces and it opened my eyes. Create a coworking space with a living component at the beach so I could combine work, surf and meet like-minded people!
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING WE SEE ONCE WE ARRIVE?
The big beach villa with the hammock and the huge trees in front of the house. I am very lucky to have found this house. It's honestly the best house in the neighborhood I could find for the concept.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO WORK AT?
Depends what kind of work. For computer work, our workspace is definetly the place to be. If you want to have a conference call, the front porch is the best place and we also have a meeting space inside of the house.
WHAT IS THE ORIGINALITY?
Well the concept is pretty unique in California to my knowdelege. I guess the community and the networking out of the box is the big plus. Where else in the world can you share your breakfast with a VC or Google exec and then go surfing?
Also we organize cool events and trip like Startup Surf Bus and
Unplug.
WHAT KIND OF EXTRA ACTIVITIES DO YOU DO THERE?
The obvious: Surfing. But Santa Cruz is also a mecqua for Mountain Bike. We recently started to go on amazing bike rides in the weekends.
We are also getting better at doing BBQs. One of our Argentinian guest made us a proper Argentinian BBQ last week.
WHY SHOULD WE COME?
To get the real Californian experience. California is not just going to boring networking events or working from coffeeshops in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
